Las Vegas, NV — The FBI is investigating a New Year’s Day explosion that occurred outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, where a Cybertruck containing fuel containers and fireworks ignited in the valet area. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Army Special Forces veteran Matthew Livelsberger, died in the incident, which injured seven others. Authorities are also examining whether this incident is connected to a separate event in New Orleans that occurred earlier that day.
Incident Details
The explosion occurred on January 1 around 8:40 a.m. local time. Following the event, FBI agents searched a property linked to Livelsberger in Colorado Springs, recovering materials similar to those found in the Cybertruck. This development follows a tragic incident in New Orleans earlier that morning, where 15 individuals lost their lives. Investigators are working to determine whether there is any connection between the two incidents or if they are unrelated.
Military Background and Fort Bragg Connection

Matthew Livelsberger served 19 years in the U.S. Army, including 18 years with Special Forces. He specialized in communications and operations, earning accolades for his overseas service, including a Meritorious Honor Award for his contributions in Tajikistan.
During part of his military career, Livelsberger was stationed at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty) in North Carolina. Records show that he was stationed there at the same time as Shamsud-din Bahar Jabbar, the suspect involved in the New Orleans incident. Both men reportedly used the Turo app to rent the vehicles involved in their respective events, prompting further investigation into any potential connections.
Educational and Professional Background

Between 2016 and 2019, Livelsberger earned a bachelor’s degree from Norwich University, a private military college. After completing his degree, he worked in autonomous systems management, further contributing to his technical expertise.
Investigation Updates
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents, focusing on possible links between the individuals involved while emphasizing that no conclusions have been reached. Investigators are reviewing social media activity and personal items found at both scenes to gain insight into motives and circumstances.
Community Condolences
We extend our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by these tragic events. As the investigations continue, the focus remains on unity, healing, and seeking answers.
