Fayetteville, NC — A local mother is raising safety concerns after a disturbing discovery while shopping Thursday evening at the Walmart Supercenter – Skibo Road.
According to the mother, she was shopping with her daughter when her child picked up a packaged chocolate bar from a shelf near the grocery self-checkout area. Upon closer inspection, the mother noticed a small needle-like pin protruding from the candy bar wrapper, with the sharp end facing outward. She said the pin appeared to be hidden beneath the label, making it difficult to see and potentially dangerous for anyone reaching for the item.

The incident reportedly occurred around 7:47 p.m. Walmart employees were immediately notified, and store staff began checking surrounding candy inventory to ensure no additional items had been tampered with.
At this time, there is no indication that the store intentionally placed the object there. However, the situation raises concerns that the item may have been altered prior to being placed on the shelf. Incidents like this serve as an important reminder for shoppers to remain vigilant, particularly in high-traffic areas such as checkout lanes where small items are frequently handled.
Parents and shoppers are encouraged to briefly inspect packaging before picking up food items, especially when shopping with children. Anyone who notices suspicious or unsafe products is urged to report them immediately to store management or security.
Community members who have experienced or witnessed similar incidents at local stores are encouraged to speak directly with store officials. Safety updates will continue to be shared as more information becomes available.
