Fort Bragg, NC – Fort Liberty Fire Management officials have confirmed that prescribed burns are scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2025, pending favorable weather and training conditions. These controlled burns are a critical part of the installation’s ongoing land management strategy, designed to reduce the risk of wildfires and maintain the ecological health of the region.

Targeted Burn Areas

Prescribed burns are planned for the following locations in Hoke and Cumberland Counties:

  • East of the Installation Boundary and North of Cates Road (near Spring Lake, NC)
  • North of Plank Road and East of King Road (within Hoke County)

These areas have been selected based on current land management needs and environmental conditions. The schedule remains subject to change based on wind patterns, humidity levels, and mission-related factors.

Public Safety and Smoke Advisory

Conditions are currently favorable for smoke dispersal, and fire management teams have coordinated with Range Control to minimize disruptions to nearby roads, residential areas, and aviation routes. However, visible smoke is expected in the vicinity of the prescribed burn zones. Residents and travelers in affected areas are urged to use caution and remain alert while driving.

Prescribed burns are a routine yet essential tool used by Fort Liberty’s environmental and fire safety teams to maintain safe and healthy landscapes across the installation.
