Fayetteville, NC — A hiker was rescued Sunday afternoon after falling approximately 40 feet down a steep embankment along the Cape Fear River Trail, near the intersection of Treetop Drive and Tartan Court.
According to officials, the individual landed in the water below, triggering a swift response from the Fayetteville Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team. Using specialized rope systems, firefighters were able to safely lift the victim back up to the trail. Utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) were also deployed to help navigate the wooded area and transport rescue personnel and equipment.

The hiker was evaluated by medics at the scene before being transported to a staging area near Clark Park. Cape Fear Valley EMS then took the individual to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that the injuries sustained were not considered life-threatening.
The City of Fayetteville’s Communications Center assisted first responders by helping to quickly locate the individual through coordinated GPS and call data, which was instrumental in the successful rescue.
