Hope Mills, NC — A Cumberland County Schools employee who has worked for approximately two to three years in classrooms supporting students with special needs was booked on Monday, January 20, 2026, in connection with a case involving a student under the age of 12.

According to court records, Brion Torre is facing a felony charge of assault on a person with a disability as well as a misdemeanor charge of assault on a person with a disability.

Torre was most recently assigned to a role at a Hope Mills elementary school. Prior to his employment with Cumberland County Schools, Torre reportedly served in the United States Army as a geospatial sergeant and held various civilian positions in the region before being hired by the school system.

The case stems from an alleged incident involving a non-verbal student under the age of 12 who reportedly sustained injuries. The matter is now part of an ongoing legal process, and additional details have not been released publicly at this time.

Cumberland County Schools has not issued a public statement regarding the incident. Employment-related actions are typically handled internally by the school system while investigations and legal proceedings remain active.
