Cumberland County, NC — As Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is recognized today, the community pauses to recognize and thank the many men and women who serve in law enforcement across the county and city. While every profession faces challenges, today is about acknowledging the dedication, integrity, and commitment shown by those who consistently step forward to protect and serve.

Deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Fayetteville Police Department have carried significant responsibility, particularly through staffing shortages and a difficult transitional period over the past year. Despite those challenges, many cases were solved, accountability was pursued, and public safety remained a priority during one of the most complex chapters the community has faced.
Recognition is also extended to past and present leadership for guiding local agencies through changing times. Respect is due to former Fayetteville Police Chief Braden and former Sheriff Ennis Wright for their years of service, as well as to current leaders Sheriff Morgan and Police Chief Bryan, who continue to guide their departments through an evolving public safety landscape.

In recent months, increased collaboration between agencies has been noticeable. Joint operations, improved communication, and shared visibility have reflected a renewed sense of unity. Events such as Operation Safe Passage highlighted cooperation among departments from Parkton, Spring Lake, Hope Mills, and surrounding areas, offering a visible reminder of what coordinated public service can look like when agencies work together.
State troopers also remain a vital presence throughout the region, supporting traffic safety, investigations, and statewide enforcement efforts. Their steady role continues to contribute to public safety across Cumberland County and neighboring areas.
On this day, appreciation is extended to all law enforcement professionals who handle situations most people never see and face decisions most never have to make. Their work matters, their presence matters, and their commitment does not go unnoticed. The responsibility of public safety is shared with the community as well, and continued cooperation between residents and law enforcement remains essential in building a safer, stronger county for everyone.
