Residents at The Park Apartments in north Fayetteville are dealing with ongoing mail concerns after multiple community mailboxes were found damaged and forcibly opened earlier this month, prompting a police investigation.
The apartment complex, located off Ramsey Street near Interstate 295, reported extensive damage to several shared mailbox units. Residents said multiple mailbox doors appeared pried open or forced downward, leaving mail compartments unsecured.

According to residents, the first signs of tampering were noticed roughly two weeks ago, when at least one mailbox showed visible damage at both the top and bottom. Despite the damage, mail delivery reportedly continued during that period.
The situation escalated on Monday, February 3, during winter weather conditions, when residents observed that multiple sections of the mailbox units had been heavily damaged and left open. The apartment leasing office was closed that day due to weather conditions and did not reopen until late Tuesday.
A notice later posted at the mailbox area by property management confirmed that the mailboxes were vandalized by two individuals at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The notice stated that the Fayetteville Police Department had been contacted and that an investigation is currently underway.
Property management advised residents who believe their mail may be missing or compromised to stop by the leasing office for further assistance and guidance.
Mail theft and mailbox vandalism are federal offenses that can have lasting impacts on residents, particularly when sensitive documents or personal information are involved. Authorities have not released additional details about the suspects or the extent of mail loss at this time.
Residents with photos, video, or additional information related to the incident are encouraged to share it with investigators as the case moves forward.
