Fayetteville, NC — The Fayetteville Police Department has confirmed that 25-year-old Heather Williams, who was reported missing and endangered earlier this week, was found deceased in a wooded area near Newark Avenue and State Avenue, off Murchison Road, on Friday, January 10, 2025. Authorities have classified her death as a homicide.

Timeline of Events

A statewide missing and endangered alert was issued for Heather due to her cognitive impairment and limited speech. Detectives were led to the wooded area on Friday, where her body was discovered. Heather was last seen on January 4, getting into a light-colored sedan with a sunroof near Berkshire Road and Owen Drive.

Investigators have yet to disclose where Heather had been or who she was with before her death. No suspects have been identified at this time, and the investigation is ongoing as police work to piece together the circumstances surrounding her death.

A Family’s Heartbreak

Heather’s sister, Mary Williams, shared a heartfelt statement reflecting the family’s grief and unwavering faith:

“It is with a heavy and broken heart that our family confirms the horrific news. I pray whoever is responsible for this is held accountable and there is justice for Heather. I know she has gone to be with Jesus. I know she is experiencing nothing but pure joy, bliss, and is finally healed—walking normal, talking normal, and rejoicing. I can only imagine what her reunion with my brother was like.

Our family finds comfort in the love Heather had for God. Through all her trials and tribulations, she never lost her faith, and I know we won’t lose ours. I thank God for the years we had with her. Thank you to everyone who has prayed, reached out, and helped us try to find her. Please continue to pray for my parents.”

Community Search and Response

Heather’s disappearance prompted an outpouring of community support. Surveillance footage captured her entering a vehicle at 9:57 p.m. the night she went missing, with phone activity ceasing shortly after midnight. Flyers and social media posts spread quickly as family and friends pleaded for information.

Heather was described as a kind-hearted but vulnerable young woman who walked with a slight limp, had limited speech, and required daily medication. The circumstances of her disappearance and death have left many in the community shaken.

Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement has not released further details regarding the cause of death or any leads on potential suspects. Detectives are urging anyone with knowledge about Heather’s movements or the identity of the driver of the sedan to come forward.

How to Help

If you have any information related to Heather’s case, please contact the Fayetteville Police Department or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477. You can also reach out directly to Heather’s family at 910-709-9484.

In Memory of Heather Williams

The Fayetteville community mourns the loss of Heather Williams and stands in solidarity with her family in their pursuit of justice. Heather’s legacy of faith and resilience remains a source of comfort for her loved ones as they seek closure in the wake of this tragedy.
