Law enforcement agencies recently stepped up traffic enforcement along Interstate 295 in Fayetteville, carrying out a coordinated operation aimed at curbing speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors on one of the area’s busiest corridors.
The effort, conducted by multiple agencies, took place over two days and totaled approximately 11.5 hours of targeted enforcement, according to officials. Officers focused primarily on speeding but also addressed a range of violations that pose safety risks to motorists and families traveling through the area.
Police reported the following results from the operation:
- 239 traffic stops conducted
- 221 citations issued
- 201 citations related specifically to speeding
- 26 warnings issued
In addition to speeding violations, officers cited drivers for failure to move over for emergency vehicles, driving with revoked or no licenses, registration and equipment violations, and lack of insurance. Authorities also confirmed that one DUI arrest was made and a felony fleeing-to-elude charge was served during the enforcement period.
Officials said the goal of the operation is straightforward: to slow traffic and reduce the likelihood of serious crashes on high-speed roadways such as I-295. The interstate, which serves as a key loop around Fayetteville, has seen growing traffic volume as the area continues to expand.
The enforcement effort also comes amid ongoing concerns about traffic-related fatalities. Fayetteville lost multiple residents to vehicle crashes last year, and community members have repeatedly called for stronger enforcement to address aggressive and reckless driving. Local officials said the recent operation reflects those concerns and underscores a commitment to improving roadway safety.
Law enforcement agencies indicated that similar traffic enforcement initiatives are expected to continue and may expand to other high-risk areas throughout the region in the coming months.
