Raeford Man Arrested After Homeowner Stops Alleged Dog Theft in Red Springs
A Raeford man was arrested early Thursday morning after a homeowner intervened during the alleged theft of three dogs from a residence in Red Springs, according to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2025, to a reported larceny in the 1800 block of Balfour Road in Red Springs. Investigators said the homeowner reported that a shed on the property had been broken into and that three dogs were taken.
Authorities stated that the homeowner’s sister witnessed a man running through the yard while carrying one of the dogs. After observing the situation, the homeowner pursued the suspect on foot and was able to stop and detain him until deputies arrived at the scene.
Officials reported that the suspect sustained minor injuries before law enforcement arrived. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and later released. After receiving medical clearance, the suspect was identified as Christopher La’Ron David of Raeford and taken to the Hoke County detention center for processing.
David has been charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and three counts of felony larceny of a dog.
