RED SPRINGS, NC — A Raeford man is facing multiple felony charges after being stopped by a homeowner during an attempted theft involving dogs at a residence in Red Springs, according to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2025, to a reported larceny on the 1800 block of Balfour Road. Investigators said the homeowner reported that a shed on the property had been compromised and that three dogs were taken.

According to authorities, the victim’s sister witnessed a man running through the yard carrying one of the dogs. After being alerted, the homeowner pursued the suspect on foot and was able to catch up to him, stop him, and hold him until deputies arrived on scene.

Officials said the suspect sustained minor injuries prior to law enforcement’s arrival. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being released and taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Christopher La’Ron David of Raeford. After being medically cleared, he was transported to the Hoke County jail for processing.

David has been charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and three counts of felony larceny of a dog.

The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact Detective Glass with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office at 910-875-5111.
