Fayetteville, NC — Fayetteville’s 911 Emergency Communications Center was briefly evacuated late Friday night after smoke was reported inside the facility, prompting a swift response from emergency crews and a shift in operations to maintain emergency call coverage.

At approximately 10:26 PM, Fayetteville Fire Department units responded to the building following reports of smoke. The incident is believed to be connected to an issue with the facility’s elevator system, which caused smoke to circulate throughout portions of the building.

Telecommunicators on duty activated established emergency protocols, and all 911 calls were rerouted to the Cumberland County dispatch center. Emergency operations continued without interruption from mobile command equipment stationed outside the facility.

Fire personnel worked to locate and isolate the source of the smoke. After safety checks were completed, the building was cleared and staff returned inside. Full operations have since resumed.

The incident remains under review by fire officials. Further updates will be shared as available.
