FAYETTEVILLE, NC — A fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Fayetteville late last week has resulted in a murder charge, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded shortly before midnight on February 6, 2026, to reports of shots fired in the 2900 block of Dwelle Drive at the Topeka Heights apartment complex. When deputies arrived, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders transported the victim to a nearby medical center, where he later died from his injuries.
After notification of next of kin, the victim was identified as Damarr Johnson, 44, of Fayetteville.
Investigators later announced that Elijah Lloyd IV, 32, of Spring Lake, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Lloyd has been charged with first-degree murder.
According to court records, Lloyd was booked and denied bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.
Sheriff’s Office officials stated that the shooting was not a random act and that the victim and suspect were known to one another. The investigation remains active and is being handled by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
