Fayetteville, NC — Major traffic congestion has developed across East Fayetteville and parts of Cumberland County due to an earlier semi-truck fire on I-95 North, which forced a shutdown of the interstate near Doc Bennett Road.
As a result of the closure, traffic is being heavily diverted, with drivers on Highway 87 and Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway unable to access I-95. This has led to a significant increase in volume through downtown Fayetteville, overwhelming Business 95, South Eastern Boulevard, and extending into inner city routes such as Person Street and Grove Street.

Officials report that I-95 North remains closed from Doc Bennett Road and northward, with backups stretching several miles. Drivers in the area are now flooding alternate roadways, causing widespread congestion along Highway 301 (Gillespie Street) and adjacent corridors.
Residents and commuters are strongly urged to avoid the area if possible and expect long delays throughout the eastern and southeastern parts of the city.
