Fayetteville, NC — A tragic incident unfolded Saturday afternoon when 57-year-old Sherri Miller was discovered fatally injured in her home on Ireland Drive. Authorities have charged her son, 40-year-old Christopher Wayne Walker, with first-degree murder in connection with her death.

Walker was apprehended near Goldsboro, NC, early Sunday morning with assistance from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

Incident Details

On Saturday at approximately 1:21 p.m., Fayetteville police responded to the 1500 block of Ireland Drive after receiving reports of suspicious activity. Upon entering the residence, officers found Miller fatally injured.

Officials also noted that Miller’s red 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, with license plate TJW-9684, was missing from the property. Authorities quickly issued an alert for the vehicle, asking the public for assistance. Thanks to coordinated efforts with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Walker was located and taken into custody less than 24 hours later.

Investigation and Motive

While the investigation remains active, authorities have not yet released information regarding a possible motive or what may have occurred leading up to Walker’s arrest.

Family Connection and Community Reaction

A relative confirmed to Watch Out Cumberland County NC that Walker is Sherri Miller’s son, adding a devastating layer of heartbreak to the incident. Family members and community supporters are struggling to come to terms with the tragic circumstances.

Walker’s Legal History

Christopher Wayne Walker has had previous encounters with law enforcement in Cumberland County:

  • 2024: Arrested for larceny.
  • March 2023: Involved in a standoff in the Buckhorn Road area after allegedly acting erratically and causing disturbances. During this incident, Walker was charged with breaking and entering after being found in a carport storage area. Authorities utilized less-than-lethal force to take him into custody.

These prior incidents point to a troubling history, though no official statements have confirmed whether they are linked to the recent events.

Community Resources and Support

This tragedy underscores the importance of addressing family conflict and seeking help when situations become volatile. If you or someone you know is facing a crisis, resources are available to provide support:
