Incident Details

The shooting took place in the E.E. Smith area, near Murchison Road and Jasper Street. Fayetteville Police responded to the scene shortly before 8:00 a.m., where Ayala was found fatally injured. Her death remains under investigation as detectives work to determine the events leading to this tragedy.

According to authorities, Ayala’s vehicle was also located in the area. Detectives are examining the car for potential evidence that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Family and Community Reaction

Ayala’s husband, who was in Durham at the time of the incident, revealed in an interview with ABC11 that he had spoken with her earlier that morning before she left for work. He expressed confusion as to why she was in the Topeka Street area, which is in the opposite direction of her workplace.

This marks the second fatal shooting in the E.E. Smith area within a week, contributing to a growing number of homicides in Fayetteville this year. With four homicides already reported in 2025 before this incident, the community is grappling with grief and concern over the escalating violence.

Appeal for Information
