FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police are asking for the community’s assistance as detectives continue investigating the shooting death of 28-year-old Tavon Donte Adams.
Authorities say Adams, a married father from Fayetteville, was killed in the early morning hours of July 7, 2025. Family members have described the tragedy as especially devastating, noting that his youngest child was born just one day after his death. Loved ones are now left grieving while also caring for a newborn and searching for answers.
According to the Fayetteville Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:02 a.m. on Monday, July 7 to a report of a person shot in the 400 block of Slim Circle. The location is a residential street situated just south of downtown Fayetteville.
When officers arrived, they found Adams suffering from critical injuries. First responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but he was ultimately pronounced dead.
Detectives say the investigation remains active and they are seeking help from anyone who may have information about what occurred in the area that night. Investigators emphasized that even small or seemingly insignificant details could prove valuable in identifying those responsible.
Police are also attempting to locate information about a vehicle believed to have been in the area at the time of the shooting. The vehicle is described as a gray 2007 Ford Focus with fading clear coat on the roof, no hubcaps, dark tinted windows, and a missing gas tank cover.
