A tragic chain of events involving two longtime Spring Lake brothers came to a close Wednesday afternoon after authorities located the body of the homicide suspect in a wooded area, officials confirmed.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called at approximately 4:49 a.m. on February 4, 2026, to a residence off East Brinkley Drive in Spring Lake following reports of a stabbing. When deputies arrived, they found Donald Snow, 65, suffering from fatal injuries caused by a sharp object. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later identified the victim’s brother, George Snow Jr., 68, as the suspect in the homicide. Authorities said both men had lived at the residence for decades and were well known in the surrounding community, adding to the shock felt by neighbors and residents in the area.
As the search for George Snow Jr. continued, the Sheriff’s Office worked in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate him. On February 5, 2026, law enforcement conducted a search in a wooded area near the 2200 block of Lillington Highway in Spring Lake.
During that search, authorities located George Snow Jr. deceased at approximately 1:43 p.m. Officials confirmed that his next of kin has been notified. At this time, investigators have not released details regarding the cause or circumstances of his death.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to review evidence and piece together the events leading up to the fatal encounter between the two brothers. Officials said additional information will be released when it becomes available.
